Went to autoX, and took some pictures. Here’s Charlie parked on Saturday. He wants stickier tires and more power. Not much I can do about that at the moment, but hopefully I’ll get some slicks and some deep offset wheels soon so I can put 15x10s all around. Thinking about turboing the piss out of the motor until it blows then doing an engine swap at that point.
This guy is my main competition. He’s also running an AW11, but heavily prepped and supercharged. There’s really very little left from the original car. He usually beats me by not as much as you might think, but I had him beat this weekend. His is down to 1400 lbs.
Paul Wright’s custom built car called Scrap Metal with a Honda S2000 motor and Supra drivetrain. This thing’s seriously quick, but he’s still working out the kinks in it. He lost a plug that was blocking off the heater hose exit on Sunday, so borrowed my MR2 for the last few runs. That was nice because now I know that I’m getting more out of the car than I thought I was. He’s a very fast driver, but was only a few tenths ahead of me in my car.
Hubert has a super clean ‘84 E30 with an S52 swap that’s excellent.
Someone showed up with a Formula 500 car. I always like seeing these out.
Ford GT
GTR
A Factory Five Cobra, Scrap Metal, Luis’ AW11, and Charlie lined up on the grid.
Then, when stopping for gas on my way home I spotted another AW11. I always love seeing these.
Happy MR2sday!

F500s are just like children. Better seen than heard.
I just don’t like the two stroke twin + CVT noise. Sounds like.....
They are faster than Formula V cars, though...

Yep. That’s pretty much what they are.

Once I have a fleet of them and the space, I’ll probably do this to one of them, but I quite like having a windshield and being able to go over speed bumps at the moment.

You’ve got some gnarly cars to race with! Everyone up here in ohio just races subarus and miatas
I just got a helluva good deal on some lightly used 225/45ZR15 A6 Hoosiers from a local miata guy. I need to find a set of wheels for them, but I can’t wait to see how my 20v adub likes the new shoes.

Oh man, that should be pretty awesome. I’m sure you can find some 15x7 4X100 rims for cheap on your local CL.

Yeah, I think that our group has one of the best autocrosses in the country. It’s certainly the best I’ve been to by a long shot, and not just with regards to the cars that show up, though those are always awesome. There are so many GT3s that show up that I don’t even notice them anymore. I think that there were four of them there this weekend. There’s usually at least one proper supercar there every weekend, sometimes more, but they rarely show up repeatedly. More often than not, it’s a guy who just bought a Ferrari 430 convinced that he can flip it who ragequits after getting destroyed by everyone. The Ford GT guy was pretty quick. If you’re ever in Florida with the two, you should totally find a way to make it out to one of the events. We have a mile long course on Sunday that’s more open than most autocross courses and a really consistent surface.

Awesome!
Our’s is this weekend, I got
Inari
working again , Aside from my 02 sensor self ejecting out of the Bung.
On Turboing the motor, I am not if you’ve seen, But the stock 4a can handle some boost without major mods, To the tune of 6-7 psi. I am currently sourcing parts on this endevor ( Well, Twincharging parts. I am securings some brackets and a SC, Looking to supercharge it first then turbo. The Turbo manifold I want is expensive and will have to come later.)
I got some links of guys running boost on Stock Blu and redtop 4a’s. You can always talk to Minamoto of Matrix garage. i’ve picked his brain and it seems the 4a’s can handle a lot. Hell he is running a Blacktop 20v with a turbo at 6psi on a stock computer.
Also, Ft Myers? I’m from Tampa originally

A twincharged 4a would be epic. I just know that I’m going to be doing an engine swap at some point and will take my time rebuilding the 16v then, so I’m figuring that as long as I’m going to be rebuilding it into a race motor, I may as well blow it up first. I’m thinking cheap ebay exhaust manifold, and a junkyard turbo and just keep bossting til it blows. I know that they can take some boost with the stock computer, but I’m curious as to what happens once you exceed that. Does it just not put out as much power as it could with an optimal fuel map, or will it start to run like shit? I guess I’ll find out.

Another question, S.O.D
How do you
liek
your BRZ?
I mean, How much change it was coming from an MR2? I’ve considered buying a FRS for the sake of having something a click more reliable than my 2 +20 year old vehicles I have rebuild time and time again. Does it still have that weird clutch pedal feeling?

From what I gathered, You can get away with using a FMU or a rasing rate FPR. The stock injectors flow a lot, To the point of GZE levels at Higher pressure, I got a table somewhere.
There was a guy running 12 PSi on a supercharged swaped on a stock 86 mr2 when it let go..Due to a bearing failure on his rebuild. I would love to see the results as well. I know a t28 can be found cheap and would be perfect for the little 1.6L
I need to find the links I saved.

Cool! Good to know. Mine’s going to be about as zero-fucks-given as possible. It’s going to be a hack job, but that’s entirely in keeping with the spirit and character of Charlie.

I was able to fix the weird clutch pedal feeling by just adjusting the pedal. The problem is that there isn’t much feel before the bite point, and there’s tons of slack before it. By just tightening the screw and repositioning the button on it to put the bite-point closer to the floor, I made it feel pretty natural. I like the BRZ, and while I still think that it’s the best car available on the market today and quite possibly the last of its kind, it doesn’t have that special something. I can’t give it a name. I bought it because it was the first car I got into in years that felt right. It drove correctly, it didn’t have nannies, the seating position is perfect, but since I picked up my AW11, I don’t feel like I need it anymore because it has everything I love about the BRZ, but moreso. I haven’t taken the BRZ to the track or autoX since Charlie’s been set up. I’m actually thinking about selling it sooner than later and getting something like a minivan or work van so I can tow Charlie to and from the track and have space to put things. One of my hobbies is recording music, and I primarily do it with a mobile setup. I end up having to severely compromise my equipment choices in order to get everything to fit into the A-Dub or the BRZ, so I need something with more space.

Good to know that the Clutch can be adjusted. I sat in one and hated the feeling of it. That was my only qualm about the car. Like you, it seems right but no soul. Don’t know why.
Yay for Multiple expensive hobbies! and Econolines and previas can be found pretty cheep. Hehe.

And this is my inspiration to supercharge a stockish 4a, The guy grafted Sc12 on it and then stepped to an m90 , Currently twincharged now with a M90 and some kind of garret turbo.

The other slightly crazy idea I had was getting a used NPR box truck with a stick. Should last forever, they’re cheap, and I won’t need to tow with it since Charlie will fit in the back!

Hell yeah, get an old landscaping truck and you are set.!
